Simpson County Board of Supervisors  ended the final meeting of the year to a surprise. County Administrator Rhuel Dickinson announced his decision to retire after 14 years of service with the county. All supervisors and ones present spoke accolades of the a job well done by Dickinson during his time of employment. A resolution was read and presented too Dickinson.

Mr. Joe Hannah opened the board meeting in prayer.

Deputy Sheriff Greg Reynolds presented the following request to move Jeanette Barnes from part time certified to full time certified jailer. The board approved the request. The board approved to purchase an ip camera to utilize sharing capability with other counties at a cost of $200 per month. The camera would allow law enforcement to report a tag on an individual wanted. If the vehicle’s tag came through any of the cameras the system would notify the proper authorities. The board approved the month fee.

Chancery Clerk Tommy Joe Harvey presented certificate of attendance for Ted Blakeney 2021 Justice Court Judge from the Fall conference in October at Biloxi that was conducted by the Mississippi Judicial College.

The board discuss an issue with a road located at Hwy 28 and Hwy 13 bypass. The road is not named on the road map nor in use. The board approved leaving the road abandoned.  Upkeep and use would revert to the  land owner.

John Killpatrick EOC reported there had been a total of 1290 E-911 calls from November 15th to December 14th. At the same time last year  there was a total of 1120. A total of 10 structure fires were reported in the county for November. EMS reported a total of 272 dispatched 911 calls. The average response time was 15 minutes.

Rhuel Dickinson County Administrator reported the following report that was approved:

  • The board approved to consider the request from the City of Magee to change the location of the Magee 4 North voting precinct from the City Police Station to the Civic Center. Magee South also votes at the Civic Center. The board will research and entertain the idea of combing the two voting precincts to just one Magee 4.
  • The board approved the contract fro CMPDD to develop and update a Comprehensive and Comptrollers for 2022 for Rhuel Dickinson and Eric Bowen for $75.00 each.
  • Approval was grated to appoint Wendell James as Special Prosecutor in the case of State of Mississippi vs Tom Berry due to the recusal of Wesley Broadhead, County Prosecutor.
  • The Solid Waste Manager position is advertising December 16 – 23, 2021 with a Monday, December 27, 2021 deadline.

The board will hold a public hearing to discuss the redistricting due to the Census for the county. The meeting will be held the first week of January 2022 in the evening. A place and time will be announced in the coming days.

The board was made aware of the resignation of Wanda Coward from the CMPDD Board of Directors as Member in Business, Board of the Central Mississippi Development Company and all other related committees, effective December 31, 2021, due to her retirement from Trustmark National Bank. The board will appoint a replacement member in the coming weeks.

Garbage Collection for the upcoming holidays are as listed below:

  • Christmas Week – (Dec 20-23) -Collection will take place Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  (NO collection Friday)
  • New Year’s Week – (Dec 27-30) – Collection will take place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  (NO collection Monday or Friday).
  • First Week of January – (January 3-7) -Collection will take place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  (NO Monday or Friday Collection)

Future Board Meeting:

  • Monday, January 3, 2021
  • Tuesday, January 18, 2021
  • Monday, February 7, 2021
  • Tuesday, February 15, 2021

Holidays: 

  • Christmas Holiday – Thursday and Friday, December 23 & 24, 2021.
  • New Year’s Holiday – Friday, December 31, 2021.
  • MLK/RE Lee Holiday – Monday, January 17, 2021.
  • President’s Day Holiday – Monday, February 21, 2021.
