Humanities instructor/librarian Bryon Conville of Florence has been selected as Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s 2017 Humanities Instructor of the Year.

The Mississippi Humanities Council celebrates the occasion by supporting Humanities Teacher Awards to one humanities faculty member at each institution of higher learning in the state (29 total). Only the president or appropriate dean can nominate the faculty member, and the nominations must be received in September.

In recognition of this selection, Conville will present a program entitled “Monomyth: The Hero’s Journey through Literature and Film” on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 12:15 p.m. in the multipurpose room at the Simpson County Center. He will be honored by the Mississippi Humanities Council’s at their Annual Awards Banquet in the spring.
A graduate of Auburn University, Conville received his master’s in library science from the University of Alabama and a master’s in education from William Carey University. Conville, who teaches English courses and is the Taylor Library director, has been a member of the Co-Lin for 12 years. He received the Howell C. Garner High Performance Award in 2006 and was selected as the Simpson County Center’s Faculty/Staff Member of the Year in 2015. Conville is also a graduate of the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy in 2017. He serves assistant scout master for boy scout troop 85 in Florence.
Conville and his wife Alison, are the parents of two sons, Daniel and Michael. In his spare time, Conville enjoys reading, playing guitar and banjo, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and camping.
