Congressman Guest Tapped as Vice Chairman of Homeland Security

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael Guest (MS-03) has been tapped to serve as the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security (CHS). Chairman Mark Green (TN-07) announced the CHS leadership assignments on Friday.

“For years, I have worked closely with my fellow Republicans to develop common-sense solutions to the border crisis and to defend our homeland from foreign threats,” Congressman Guest said. “I am excited about the opportunity to work alongside Chairman Green to finally bring the Republican plan to secure our border to the floor of the House of Representatives and to promote legislation that would advance our mission of creating a more secure nation.”

In June of 2021, Congressman Guest was appointed as the Vice Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security by former Ranking Member John Katko. In his role, Congressman Guest joined other Congressional leaders on multiple trips to the border to discuss the border crisis directly with law enforcement agents.

Congressman Guest will also return to the CHS subcommittee on Border Security, Facilitation, and Operations, which is tasked primarily with land, maritime, and air security along the southern and northern borders of the United States and DHS policies on legal trade and travel.

As Vice Ranking Member, Congressman Guest introduced multiple pieces of legislation that addressed the border crisis or its immediate impacts.

Last year, Congressman Michael Guest introduced the bipartisan and bicameral END FENTANYL Act, which would require Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to update its manuals at least every three years to identify ways to help prevent drug and human smuggling activity through ports of entry.

Congressman Michael Guest also joined current Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul (TX-10) to introduce the International Drug Trafficking and Human Smuggling Partnership Act of 2022, which would grant CBP permanent authority to operate in foreign countries in order to advance its mission to protect Americans from international criminal activity.

Congressman Guest also introduced the Border Enforcement Security Task Force Act (BEST Act), which would reauthorize the Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST) and help stop the flow of illicit narcotics into the United States by thwarting the criminal activity of transnational criminal organizations.
