I just never know what I’m going to find when I start on a “mission.” Tuesday morning, I went to Mendenhall to take pictures of the county poll workers learning the tablets. When I pulled up to the Mendenhall United Methodist Church, a nice lady pulled right in beside me! She looked at me like “ what are you doing…” I explained my journey and she told me about what was taking place at her church…a group of ladies who gather to make shawls, hats, caps etc to be given to area residents.
I explained to “Miss Sue” that as soon as I completed the “poll story,” I was coming back for a visit.
The items the ladies are making are beautiful…the colors are inspiring. Sue Palmer and Penny Muirhead were on duty today packing red bags to be taken to county middle school students…as well as junior high students and the Methodist Children’s Home. The ladies also supply the police departments with warm garments in case the officers see a needy person…not just a child. Penny explained, “we give our items to old and young…whoever has a need.”
Here I was…right in the middle of a mission project that is touching people all over Simpson County. The group gathers on Tuesday from 10-12; Thursday 5-7 and Saturday 10-12. “The door is always open to anyone who would like to join,” stated Sue. (1st Saturday of every month, meet at the Braxton UMC.)
If you are a person who knits or crochets, just “show up!”
This group is self-supportive…meaning they need and appreciate donations of any amount of money…even thread!
Here’s another chance to make a difference in Simpson County…just as these ladies do!
