JACKSON, MS— Mississippi Public Service Commissioner Brent Bailey of the Central District announced the recognition of Energy Efficiency Day 2022 today, October 5, and the adoption of his Proclamation.
“Energy efficiency is a proven, reliable way to lower the costs of energy usage within your home or business,” Commissioner Bailey said. “Recognizing the benefits of energy efficiency is crucial and with energy costs expected to rise this winter, efficiency must be a priority.”
Energy Efficiency Day is a nationwide daylong awareness event to increase public awareness and education on energy efficiency by highlighting the opportunities of energy-saving efforts to lower bills, extend energy resources and create jobs. This annual awareness event is supported by hundreds of regional and national organizations, businesses, agencies, utilities, universities, and individuals.
Energy efficiency can be practiced through making energy-efficient and weatherization upgrades – such as adding insulation, caulking windows, using LED lighting, installing a heat pump and so much more.
“Most electric and natural gas utilities offer customer-funded energy efficiency programs that provide a range of services, rebates, direct installs, and technical assistance to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. I personally have invested in these services, reaping the benefits, and I encourage all Mississippians to utilize these programs as well to help lower their utility bills.”
