College of Arts and Letters Recognizes Excellence in Academics

The University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Arts and Letters recently held an awards ceremony at which a number of students were recognized for academic achievements.

Held on the Hattiesburg campus in the Thad Cochran Center, friends, family, faculty and colleagues gathered to honor the hard work and excellence from 13 academic departments, including Anthropology and Sociology, Art and Design, Communication Studies, Dance, English, Foreign Languages and Literatures, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, Mass Communication and Journalism, Music, Philosophy and Religion, Political Science, International Development and International Affairs and Theatre.

“It is gratifying to stop and reflect—as the academic year comes to a close—on the work and achievements of our students. The Arts and Letters students honored at the recent Awards Day ceremony are our best and brightest; they are why we do what we do, and why the work matters. Congratulations to each and every one,” said Dr. Maureen Ryan, dean of the College of Arts and Letters.

*Award winners from the Department of Anthropology and Sociology are:

Rebecca Aucoin, Sara Jordan Banks, Latoysha Brown, Amber Bynum, Joshua Caves, Shalonda Collins and Emily Kate Ratliff.

*Award winners from the Department of Art and Design are: Cody Bass,

Kacey Holifield, Tirza Legg, Michael Lynch, Magen Pierce and Alex Townsend.

*Awards winners from the Department of Communication Studies are: Austin Allen, Jonathan Bridenbaker, Madison Clark, Andrew Wade Johnson, Ashley McDonald, Marissa C. McGillis and Lakelyn Taylor.

*Awards winners from the Department of Dance are: Jennifer Alafat, Destiny Ponville,

Alexandra Robinson and Cassidy Simmons.

*Awards winners from the Department of English are: Katherine Abel, Hannah Baker, James Baker, Leah Barnes, Jen Brewington, William Clark, Stacie Covington, Hannah Dow, Monic Ductan, Madison Etheridge, Michael Goodwin, Joseph Todd Gray, Paige Gray, Joe Holt, Jana Ishee, Charles Hunter Joplin, Mary Ryan Karnes, Katelyn Ladner, Corley Longmire, Heather Miller, Ben Mitchell, Lindsay Patrono, Emma Reeves, AmyJoy Sedberry, Mary Spooner, Anastasia Stelse and Ashley Yount.
