WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today commended Tana Walker of Wiggins, who he nominated to be a 2017 Angel in Adoption, in recognition of a 30-year career dedicated to promoting adoption and foster families.

Walker will be among the “Angels in Adoption” honorees featured at a gala tonight in Washington.  The Angels in Adoption program is sponsored by the nonprofit Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI).

“Tana Walker has devoted her life to working with children in the foster care system and finding homes for hard-to-place children.  Her tireless dedication to finding families for children has made a true difference in the lives of many Mississippians,” Cochran said.  “It is an honor to welcome her into the group of distinguished citizens who have been honored as Angels in Adoption.”

Cochran nominated Walker on the basis of her long career, first as a social worker with the Pearl River County Department of Human Services and then as a long-time adoption specialist for Central and South Mississippi with Southern Christian Services for Children and Youth, Inc. (SCSCY).  She is currently a senior recruitment specialist with the SCSCY Adoption/Therapeutic Foster Care Division.

Walker and her husband, John, have a son, Jonathon.  She is a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church where she teaches Sunday school and vacation bible school.  She is also associated with Awana, a nonprofit children’s and youth ministry curriculum organization.

The nonprofit, nonpartisan CCAI advocates for increased awareness about children in need of a stable home environment and supports eliminating barriers to adoption.  CCAI, which does not receive government funding, was established in 2001 as an outgrowth of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption.

Cochran and U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) are members of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption for the 115th Congress.
