Coach Teddy Dyess Earns 200th Win

Coach Teddy Dyess earned his 200th win as a coach on the road and minutes after an ice bath from his players Friday, November 15, 2019. Dyess is in his second year at Magee High School. Friday’s win moved the Trojans to a 10-3 record and the team advances to the 3rd round of playoff’s. This is the first time Magee Has had 10 wins in a season since 2000.

Coach Dyess has 28 years of coaching experience at Terry, Mount Olive, Madison Central, Lumberton, Philadelphia, and Magee. He has a 200-44 career coaching record in 19 years as a head coach at Lumberton, Philadelphia, and Magee and was named Mississippi Coach of the Year in 2006. He has won over 10 district and 2 state Championships and has coached over 15 division I players and multiple players have reached the NFL. Dyess has served as a member of the Legislative Council of the MHSAA. He has severed as a member of the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Association of Coaches. Dyess has served as both head coach and an assistant coach in the Mississippi North/South Classic and as an assistant in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game. Dyess and his wife are natives of Bassfield, Mississippi where he played on a 2 state Championship teams for the legendary Hall of Fame Coach Howard Willoughby.

Dyess not only enjoys coaching but he also enjoys teaching. It is his passion. Nothing gives him greater satisfaction than seeing it all come together for the kids. Through hard work, his teams have accomplished major and minor successes. During those times, Dyess has never missed an opportunity to teach a life lesson. Nothing can prepare a person for the real world until they are in it, but he believe athletics can aid in preparing them for the game of life.

Coach Dyess is married to Chantay Dyess and they have one son Thomas. Thomas is also a member of the 2019 Trojan Football Team.
