Coach Earnest Jaynes, former coach, teacher, and principal at Magee School, appeared before the December 7, 2021 Board meeting to explain plans for the McLaurin School buildings. These building are located on the old elementary school property now owned by the city. Attorney Bruce Smith said the contract will require researching to allow use.
Coach Jaynes explained two buildings at the Goodwater campus, the first block building and the gym, hopefully will receive historical registry placement opening the door for grants.
According to Jaynes, the buildings will become a museum commemorating the history of the McLaurin School. The first block building and gym are original from the earlier school days.
Until research by the city attorney is complete, restoring of the buildings is on hold.
