Co-Lin to suspend men and women’s soccer program
WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Community Board of Trustees has voted to suspend the men and women’s soccer programs indefinitely. After careful consideration and research, the College considered the financial support for the program compared to other colleges, the academic success of student-athletes, and the overall competitiveness of the program.
“This has been a difficult decision to make for everyone involved,” said Co-Lin President Dr. Ronnie Nettles. “We are grateful for the hard work, time and effort Coach Junior Noel and the players have put into the soccer program this past season.”
Despite having a qualified coach, it has been difficult to recruit enough men and women to be competitive with other community colleges in the state. Also, other MACJC schools have made a higher financial investment in their soccer programs. Additional funding needed to improve both programs at Co-Lin are not available or justified at this time.
The athletic department will assist current players in contacting other MACJC colleges if they wish to continue playing. If players decide to continue their education at Co-Lin, players will be considered for other scholarship opportunities based on their academic progress, discipline record, and involvement on campus.
