Simpson County Board of Supervisors met Friday, July 15, 2022.

Dr. Hulon-Sims President with Copiah Lincoln Community College, Dr. Anika Floyd Vice President Simpson County Campus, and Kenny Gosa Coordinator of Economic Development met before the board and updated them on Copiah Lincoln Community College.

Dr. Hulon-Sims is entering her 5th year as president. The group advised Simpson County was an important part of Copiah Lincoln Community College. Tuition remains the lowest in the state of the Community Colleges. Attending Community College first is a large savings in the parents of the students. Co-Lin wants to be part of the savings plan.The college has a workforce program in addition to general academic and technical studies. The lady wolves softball team are the state champions. A vision for the Simpson Campus is to make the college more visible from the highway. Many improvements are still being made to the Wesson campus.

The board approved to begin the development of a struct for the dog pound at the county jail. A place to house the animals must be completed first before the ordinance. Once the ordinance comes into effect, a shelter will be available for the dogs.

Sheriff Paul Mullins reported the following for approval.

  • Approval of surplus equipment from Rankin County Sheriff’s Department as an Intergovernmental transfer at no cost a 2019 Dodge Durango.
  • Pay Pack Track yearly hander subscription for Joe Andrews.
  • To hire Mark Brown as a part-time non-certified and Chris Barron as a new hire non-certified.
  • Permission for Angie Walker and Crystal Scarbrough dispatchers to attend Mississippi 911 coordinators 2022 Fall Conference October 24-October 28th at the IP Casino in Biloxi, Ms.

Ben Warren road manager reported a third of the rock and tar project had been completed.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
