Co-Lin Homecoming events planned

Copiah-Lincoln Community College is planning Homecoming events for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-3. Alumni, friends and students are welcomed to the campus to re-connect and enjoy activities.
Homecoming weekend will kick off with a concert in the Ewing Fine Arts auditorium at 7 p.m. from the Three Co-Lin Tenors featuring Joe Elliot, Dwayne Nix, and J.D. Longmire on Thursday, Oct. 1. The trio performed as Co-Lin students back in the ‘80s and are looking forward to reuniting their voices.
The annual Homecoming golf tournament sponsored by the baseball team will begin at noon on Friday, Oct. 2. For more information, contact Clay Smith at (601) 643-8412. The annual reception at the president’s home will honor former Alumni of the Year on Friday evening at 5 p.m. If you are a former Alumnus or Alumna of the Year and have not received an invitation by Sept. 15, contact the alumni office.
The AthleticAlumni Association will hold their annual meeting and Hall of Fame induction on Saturday at 9 a.m. New inductees include Jacob Blakeney of Magee, Jaris Patrick of Mendenhall, Ralph Sanders of Wiggins, David Smith (deceased) of Wesson, and Corey Verrett of Opelousas, Louisiana. The Band and Colette Alumni Chapter will dedicate the auditorium in the Maggie Flowers Ewing Fine Arts building in honor of former band director, Stanley Stewart during their annual meeting at 9:30 a.m. They will also induct Sonya Cowen of Wesson into the Hall of Fame and present the Stanley Stewart Outstanding Young Alumni award to Laci Fenn Godbold of McComb.
The high school and college classes of 1965 are planning 50th reunion celebrations. For information on the high school reunion, contact Anne Munson Daigle at (225) 324-5243 or Gloria Smith Sweatman at (601) 835-1444. For information on thecollege reunion, contact Sonya White Cowen at (601) 643-5256 or Patricia Smith Walker at (601) 757-2627. Reunion groups will be recognized at the alumni luncheon, and the college class of 1965 will be presented with golden anniversary pins.
Several athletic groups will be getting together at Homecoming. Former men’s tennis coach Mike McIntyre is planning a reunion of his former players. If you are a player from the McIntyre era and are interested in attending, contact McIntyre at mike.mcintyre@colin.edu. The 1985 championship football team is planning a reunion at the tailgate party at Stone Stadium prior to the football game. If you are a member of this team, call Coach Ray Ishee at (601) 757-7616 or contact the alumni office for details. The 2000 and 2005 College World Series baseball teams will tailgate outside thebaseball field house prior to the game. If you are a member of either of these teams, contact Clay Smith at (601) 643-8412 for more information.
The Class of 1975 is planning to meet at the alumni luncheon and later at the tailgate party. If you are a member of this class, contact Marilyn Brown at (601) 643-8701 fordetails. Other classes that end in ‘5 are encouraged to plan reunions. To help plan a reunion for your class or group, contact the alumni office at (601) 643-8498.
Former students and colleagues of the late Dr. Phyllis Lanier are invited to an open house and dedication of the new chemistry lab in Smith Hall to be named after the iconic late instructor. The open house begins at 1 p.m.
The annual Alumni Association’s awards luncheon will be held in the Henley Cafeteria at 11 a.m. Alumni of the Year Sandy Cowart of Terrell, Texas and Dr. Sherry Chance Pippen of Monticello will be honored. A tailgate party will be held outside Stone Stadium from 12:30 p.m. until game time. The public is invited. Pre-game activities including the presentation of the 2015 homecoming queen and her court begin at Stone Stadium at 2 p.m. followed by a 2:30 kickoff for the homecoming game between Co-Lin and Pearl River Community College.
