Co-Lin graduates Tenth Class of Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA)
WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College Workforce Education division recently graduated 10 students from the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) non-credit training program on the Wesson Campus. After six months of rigorous training, students now possess the skills to provide both clinical and administrative support to a diverse variety of healthcare providers.
Healthcare facilities seek employees with diverse skill sets, and this training program provides that to participants. Students learn to work alongside doctors and nurses to administer medications, obtain laboratory specimens, assist with minor procedures, perform electrocardiograms, provide patient education, record vital signs, administer injections, and execute administrative office tasks. These responsibilities require knowledge in medical terminology, basic pharmacology, nutrition, psychology, anatomy and physiology, clinical patient care, infection control, testing and laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, patient care coordination and education, administrative assistant skills, and medical law and ethics.
The Co-Lin Workforce CCMA program involves not only classroom learning but also computer lab studies, hands-on learning, and clinical rotations. Once training is successfully completed, students will be eligible to test for the National Healthcareer Association CCMA National Board exam for licensure.
The next session of Workforce CCMA training on the Wesson Campus will begin this month. Upcoming dates and the application process may be found on the website at www.colin.edu/ccma or by calling 601-643-8707.
