WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Foundation Board of Directors recently welcomed Joe Coates of Wesson to the board.
Coates is publisher of the Copiah County Courier newspaper in Hazlehurst. He attended Co-Lin in 1988 before transferring to Mississippi State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
He also serves on the board of directors for the Mississippi Press Association and the Wesson Athletic Foundation, and has served on the board and as president of the Hazlehurst Area Chamber of Commerce. He is an official for the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) and was named an All-Star Referee in basketball in 2008 and in football in 2015. Coates is married to the former Karen Hood, and they have six children and five grandchildren.
“I am honored to serve as a board member for the Co-Lin Foundation and to be a part of promoting Co-Lin,” Coates said. “I look forward to working with the other members to serve the college and its students.”
DJ Preiss, executive director of the foundation, is pleased to bring Coates to the board. “We are excited to have Joe join us on the foundation board,” Preiss said. “He is a community leader that is passionate about Copiah County and has been a longtime friend to Co-Lin. As a member of our nominating sub-committee, he will be able to help us in the selection of new board members as vacancies arise.”
