City of Magee Board of Aldermen Pass Tethering Regulations

With continued complaints of cruel treatment of animals in the City, the Board of Aldermen passed an amendment to Ordinance 227, comely know as the dog ordinance, concerning tethering of dogs.

Tethering of dogs is not allowed except for when the dog is:

1.  Tethering while receiving medical care or treatment by a licensed  veterinarian or is being groomed except the the collar or tether must be humanely applied.

2.  Is actively participating in an exhibition, show, contest, or other legal event in which skills, breeding, or stamina of the dog is judged or examined except that the collar or tether must be humanely applied.

3.  Being actively trained by federal, state, or local law enforcement agency, Military, or National Guard until except that the collar or tether be humanely applied.

4.  Under the direct control of its owner or handler and the leash or tether is affixed in a humane manner.

If you see a dog tethered, call the Magee Police (601-849-2326)

Tethering is the action of tying an animal with a rope or chain so as to restrict its movements
