The Board of Aldermen meeting was called to order by Mayor Dale Berry. Local pastor, Rev. Edgar Lee, opened the meeting with prayer followed by the reciting of the National Anthem.
Mayor Dale Berry gave his report. Central Sunbelt FCU will have an open house and ribbon cutting on Saturday, April 28th at 11:00 AM. The new building is located behind Car Care Clinic & Jet Lube (402 Pinola Drive).
Joe Worrell has been named Vice President of the Middle Mississippi Building officials. He is also a board member of MCDEMA (Mississippi Civil Defense Emergency Management Agency).
Mayor Berry apologized to Ultimate Truck Wash and APEX Physical Therapy for not attending their ribbon cuttings. The mayor was attending conferences for the city during both events.
The Mayor reported the city did not receive the federal grant for the fire department. “It was just bad timing with Thad Cochran’s retirement,” stated Berry.
The MS Scholars Banquet is scheduled for May 3rd @ 6 PM @ The Family Life Center of First Baptist Church in Magee. All board members are invited to attend the event.
Chris Williams and the Farm Bureau Cooking team will cook for the mayor, board, and department heads on May 1st prior to the regularly scheduled May Board of Aldermen meeting. The cookout begins at 5:30.
Mayor Berry attended the Central Mississippi Mayor’s Conference.
Co-Lin Simpson Campus Spring Fling is Wednesday, April 18th. The mayor and board are invited to the event.
Mayor Berry gave an update on the old Magee Elementary school property. A quick claim deed was to be filed by the Simpson County School Board. At this time, Attorney Bruce Smith had not received confirmation of the filing. Title search has been completed. Head Start is getting an appraisal of the property to deal with insurance matters. Smith has been in contact with the Head Start people and plans are moving forward.
There were no public comments. The work project and committee reports were given. Two new businesses are in the process of locating on the highway. One new business is considering locating in downtown Magee.
The minutes and claims docket were approved.
The Mayor’s Youth Council was recognized. The group is working on historical landmarks for 8 sites within the city limits of Magee.
A discussion was held concerning the city of Magee joining the opioid lawsuit. A motion was made to join the lawsuit and to enter into partisanship with Beasley Allen Law Firm of Montgomery, AL.

In airport matters, Ashley Steele reported that the airport had passed inspection. Mayor Berry commended Ashley on her hard work. The only problem found during inspection was a non-working lightbulb.
Fire Marshal Charlie Valadie reported that the fire department has been working for several months with inspections for Boswell. Between 100-125 inspections were conducted. The Magee Fire Department will participate in a Health Fair on Saturday, April 21st at Walmart. Some of the fire trucks will be on display for the children to enjoy. The firemen will promote fire safety as well as give away smoke detectors.
Zoning, building inspector, police department, and public works had no matters to discuss.
With no emergency matters, the meeting was adjourned.
Upon adjournment, citizen Chris May asked to speak. Mayor Berry denied the request because all speaking by the public is handled following the Mayor’s report. May was invited to return to the May 1st meeting and speak at the appropriate time.
