CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TRAVEL PERIOD

The Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Christmas Holiday Travel Observation Period concluded on Monday, December 25th, at midnight.

The period began on Saturday, December 23rd, at 6:00 a.m.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 2,544 citations, made 78 arrests for impaired driving, and investigated 144 crashes resulting in 31 injuries, with one fatal crash and one death. The deadly crash occurred in Covington County

. CHRISTMAS TRAVEL PERIOD OVERVIEW: Troop J Fatal Crash, Covington County, 12/23/23 On Saturday, December 23, 2023, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 37 in Covington County. A 2006 Honda Accord driven by 29-year-old Deyounta Clark of Mount Olive, MS, traveled north on Highway 37 when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. Deyounta Clark received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene. This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
