Enjoy a delicious tailgate meal, see a Mississippi College pre-season football scrimmage and watch a spectacular fireworks show. Those are the key ingredients for MC’s 2017 Choctaw Fanfare.
MC supporters should circle the August 19 date on their calendars. The event on the Clinton campus is perfectly timed to coincide with move-in day for hundreds of freshmen into the university’s residence halls.
Starting at 5 p.m. at the A.E. Wood Coliseum, Choctaw Fanfare festivities should rev up supporters of all things Blue & Gold.
What’s on the agenda?
Choctaw Fanfare activities include a meal from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the coliseum. The menu consists of: pulled barbecue chicken sandwiches on buns, baked beans, cole slaw, chips, cookies and canned drinks.
There will be a photo booth, carnival activities, a nice gift for all ticket holders and much more. Introduced to the crowd will be MC coaches and players on football, cross country, soccer and volleyball teams along with Lady Choctaws cheerleaders.
Mississippi College Choctaws sports personality Tom A. Hawk will roam the basketball arena as university family members shoot hundreds of photos at the Golden Dome. MC President Lee Royce and Athletic Director Mike Jones will make the rounds greeting visitors.
The action moves to Robinson-Hale Stadium for an 8 p.m. football scrimmage game followed by the fireworks show at 8:45 p.m. It’s a good way to see the MC players up close before the 2017 season starts with three consecutive road games. The opening contest will be in the Peach State as the Choctaws face Clark Atlanta on August 31.
Other 2017 football season highlights: MC will travel to Southwest Baptist in Missourion September 9 and make the two-hour trip to Livingston, Ala. to battle West Alabama on September 16. The Choctaws return home September 23 to tackle Gulf South Conference foe Florida Tech and GSC rival Delta State on September 30.
Thousands of fans are expected at Robinson-Hale Stadium for the 2017 Homecominggame on October 21. The Choctaws will battle West Georgia that Saturday afternoon.Led by Coach John Bland, the MC Choctaws went 3-7 in 2016, including their first GSC win since 1995, a 32-0 triumph over Shorter. The final home game is Shorter on November 4.
“This is the toughest Division II conference in the country, year after year,” Coach John Bland said.
Each year, the MC Choctaw Fanfare continues to get bigger and better.
Tickets for the event cost $10 for adults and are $5 for children between the ages of 5 and 12.
