For this part of this series, I, Ian Cowart, want to focus on Magee Chamber of Commerce Board of Director, Jacob Blakeney.
This is actually Jacob’s last year to serve as a Chamber Board of Director. Jacob will roll off as a board member at the annual meeting on March 6th, 2018. Jacob is without question, one of the hardest working board members I’ve had the pleasure serving beside. Jacob has shown up with his work boots on at every single event we have hosted. Jacob is one of the most humbling guys you can possibly be around. Every time he shows up to a meeting or function, you’re always greeted with the signature goofy Jacob smile and laugh.
Jacob has one of the most infectious personality’s I’ve ever been around. No matter what is going on, Jacob has the ability to put a smile one your face. Having Jacob on our board has filled us with such positivity that it has been nearly impossible to focus on anything negative. I am very much grateful for that.
Jacob has served at every single event including “Tea in the Gardens”, the 2017 Crazy Day Fall Festival, the Crazy Day Car Show Classic, Project Downtown, and Christmas Parade. I can always count on Jacob to fill in and work no matter what the task. Jacob is one of the most dependable people I have met. Jacob has not even once, turned down the opportunity to serve the Chamber or City of Magee this year.
One thing I want to personally mention about Jacob is that he has inspired me to become a better person. There has been too many times this year where I allowed stress and worry get the best of me. When I was around Jacob, he always encouraged me to shrug it off and relax. I could always count on Jacob to give me the affirmation that I needed to carry on.
I also want to mention that Jacob is a beast in the gym! I take pride in how strong I’ve been able to make my legs. One day, Jacob comes in the gym and decide to challenge me to a squat off. I wasn’t able to walk for a week. I cannot divulge the winner. It’s like the Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa fight at the end of Rocky 3, you’ll never know who won. That day, I was truly humbled. Jacob taught me that there is always room to grow and better ourselves.
Jacob’s drive, positivity, and work ethic are traits that the City of Magee needs to surround themselves with. I am proud to have worked alongside Jacob and call him a friend.
Thank you Jacob for all that you do for the Chamber and the City of Magee.
