At approximately 6:30 PM Thursday, July 20, 2023, a cement truck exiting highway 49 caught fire leading to total engulfment of the vehicle. According to citizen Peggy Taylor, “ It sounded like somebody ran into our house. Looks bad. Three times it sounded like something blowing up.”
The loud booms most likely were the tires exploding.
The vehicle experienced a mechanical issue. The smoke could be seen for miles causing delays on highway 49.
The driver of the truck was not injured per his wife, Shelia Kitchens.
The Magee Fire Department and the Magee Police Department responded to the fire.
