Celia Ann Armstrong passed away at Hillcrest Nursing Center on Sunday, December 3, 2023. She was born on July 30, 1938, to John Thomas Barnes and Vergie Eliza Smith in Jefferson Davis County.
She started playing the piano at the age of twelve. Growing up, she has played for too many churches and events to count. Most recently, she was the pianist at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, but before that, she played at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she grew up. She also played at Old Hebron Baptist Church for years. She enjoyed working outside in her garden and loved sitting on her front porch, enjoying the view and her peaceful time.
Celia Ann is survived by children, John Walter Armstrong (Cami), Celia Darlene Randle, Rhonda Gale Sullivan (Al), Karen Lyn McCallum (Danny); sister, Jimmie Carol Fisher (Jimmy) and three grandchildren, Dorian Sullivan, Shannon Watkins (Bert) and Alan Fortenberry (Samantha).
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Thomas Billy Armstrong, and her parents, J.T. and Vergie Barnes.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Bro. Micah Rutland will officiate the service with interment following.
