Celebrating National 529 Day

Every year, on May 29 (5/29), states across the country celebrate college savings. College savings plans are also known as 529 plans for their section in the Internal Revenue Code. College Savings Mississippi celebrated it this year in partnership with 15 hospitals across the State:

  •   Baptist
  •   Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto
  •   Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi
  •   Forrest General Hospital
  •   King’s Daughters Medical Center
  •   Memorial Hospital Gulfport
  •   Merit Health Central Office
  •   Merit Health Madison
  •   Merit Health River Oaks Hospital
  •   Merit Health River Regional Medical Center
  •   Merit Health Woman’s Hospital
  •   North Mississippi Medical Center
  •   OCH Regional Medical Center
  •   Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center
  •   University of Mississippi Medical Center

Babies born at these hospitals yesterday received an “I’m a 529 Baby” onesie. In addition, the two babies born at these hospitals at or after, but closest to 5:29 am and 5:29 pm are going home with $529 MACS scholarships. One was born at University of Mississippi Medical Center. The other was born at Forrest General Hospital. It is never too early to start saving for college! Thank you to all the participating hospitals for helping to promote college savings for these newborns.
