Mrs. Ethel Terry, who was born February 10, 1916, is celebrating her birthday on Friday. Yes, Mrs. Ethel is 101 years old!
Mrs. Ethel was born in the Indian Springs area near Laurel in Jones County Mississippi. She attended school at Pineville which is also in Jones County. When Mrs. Ethel was 5 years old her mother died. At age 18, her father was killed.
Mrs. Ethel came to the Sanatorium (now Boswell) as a patient. While at the Sanatorium, she met and married her husband who was also a patient. After a short work stent in Jackson, the Terrys returned to the Sanatorium to work…and she retired from the San.
In approximately 1976, Mrs. Ethel moved into one of Billy Ray Hankin’s apartments on old highway 49 near the railroad track. She has lived in this same apartment all these years!
Except for a few skin cancers that have been removed, her health is good. She takes 1 pill a day and lives alone.
Mrs. Ethel has 1 niece and 4 nephews…plus a group of caring friends who have been visiting her for years.
