Carolyn Winborne passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at her residence surrounded by family. She was born on January 26, 1940, to Charles Pattishall, Sr, and Gladys Pattishall, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Carolyn was unapologetically in love with her Lord and Savior and made a point of sharing her faith with whomever would listen, and even some who didn’t want to hear! She had an influence that spanned several generations, serving in music ministries at several local churches, as well as being a faithful Sunday School teacher to thousands of children in Covington and Simpson counties, and in Tampa, Florida.
For nearly 40 years, she faithfully attended and served FBC Magee. Being the church organist, singing in the choir, participating as a soloist in many programs, playing handbells, participating in “Silver Tones,” teaching children’s Sunday School, and leading children’s choirs were some of her greatest joys.
One of her great passions was teaching individual piano and voice lessons. We cannot even begin to count the number of children and adults who had “Ms. Carolyn” for their teacher. You know who you are!
She fiercely loved her family! Other than Christ, she probably spoke of her family more than anything…just ask her friends!! She was incredibly proud of her boys, her grandkids, and her great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, Gilbert Winborne, Sr., and her son, Gil Winborne, Jr., along with her parents.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Lee Winborne (Marilynn), Russell Winborne, Tim Winborne (Arika); two sisters, Char Avrunin (Mark), Cherie Pattishall (Mike), one brother, Chuck Pattishall (Sharon); nine grandchildren, Anthony Winborne (Audra), Jonathan Winborne (Rachel), Jeanna Winborne, Courtlyn Winborne, Amri Moran, Dane Ward, Kaedmon Winborne, Tannon Winborne, and Emerson Winborne; six great grandchildren, Brooklynn Winborne, Peyton Winborne, Ava Winborne, Owen Winborne, Logan Winborne, Brooks Henderson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As Mom always said, “Remember, Jesus loves you and so do I.”
Services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Magee, MS, at 11:00 am with visitation from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Rev. Barry Corbett will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
