JACKSON, Miss. – Investigators from the State Auditor’s office participated in a joint investigation which led to the February 2019 conviction of Carl Nicholson of Hattiesburg. Today Nicholson was sentenced to serve five years in prison and pay a $25,000 fine in addition to paying court-ordered restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement:
“I’m proud to work alongside the law enforcement officers in my office who helped investigate this case. My office’s position is that those who defraud the public will be held accountable with zero tolerance, regardless of who they are.”
