“Buffet Christians”

Most of us love good food at nice restaurants with plenty of choices. Occasionally we will visit a restaurant with a really nice buffet with lots of options and you can eat all of those foods that you like and leave the foods that you don’t. Buffets are not really a healthy choice for most of us. We will eat only the good stuff and leave the healthy choices for another time. A steady diet of mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, fried chicken or fish and lots of desserts will quickly lead to health problems.

Buffet Christians are multiplying dramatically. Church attendance has dropped, we have tons of people that attend only the Worship service and then only if nothing interferes. They have no interest in Sunday school, Bible study, Singing in the Choir, Mission groups, or anything that requires regular attendance. They are drawn to churches that are large enough to meet all of their wants and desires yet they can remain anonymous! Nothing will be required of them: no service to others and no commitment of time; there are plenty of others that can meet the needs of children, youth, and senior citizens. They are looking for a church to bless them! They are Free of any Obligation to SERVE!

Role models can be positive or negative.

Don’t put a lot of concern into what others think of you.

March 31, 2026

Is that why Jesus died on the cross to save us? Were we saved to be served or were we saved to SERVE? If you left your church thru death or choice, would your church miss you? Would there be something that you did that others will miss? What service did you perform that met the needs of others? Are we guilty of picking only those things that we like and leaving the things that involve commitment of time and faithful attendance?
Are we all becoming Buffet Christians?
