On March 26, 2025, after a day long trial, a Simpson County jury found Bryan Scott Kennedy guilty of Aggravated Domestic Violence. After the jury returned its verdict, Circuit Judge Matt Sullivan sentenced Kennedy to 20 years to serve in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Judge Sullivan further ordered Kennedy to complete long term drug and alcohol treatment before he is released. Kennedy was indicted in 2024 by a Simpson County grand jury for the incident which occurred on June 11, 2024.
I want to thank Sheriff Paul Mullins and his department for the excellent investigation conducted in this case. After securing a search warrant, the investigator was able to seize the home security camera footage which showed the crime being committed in its entirety.
I also want to thank Assistant District Attorneys Shannon Coghlan and Stephanie Wood for the excellent job they did in preparing this case for trial and for the professional manner in which they presented the evidence to the jury.
I am very proud of the victim in this case for standing up to her abuser and being willing to testify against him. There is absolutely no excuse for domestic violence and it will not be tolerated in the 13th Circuit Court District.
