Brenda Carol Martin Schmidt, 65, of Richland, MS passed away peacefully on June 12, 2021 at her daughters home after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia. She was born October 23, 1955 in Magee, MS. Brenda graduated from Magee High School at age 16 and attended nursing school at Hinds Community College and the University of Mississippi. Brenda, better known as B, carried out a life that couldn’t possibly fit into a brief summary. God created her with gifts and strengths like compassion, kindness, helpfulness, tenderness, mercy, and love. Brenda found her greatest joys in her children and grandchildren and in her lifelong nursing career educating and serving others. This is a quality that radiated throughout her. She was fearless, faithful, and loved the Lord. Though her health was declining for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and sweet spirit kept her pushing through to keep her independence. It would be wrong to say that Brenda lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.

Survivors include her daughter Sara Katherine Schmidt, her step children Amy Oakes and Daniel Schmidt; grandchildren,  Jackson Turner, Carter Eichwurtzle, Lauren Oakes, and Adin Oakes; brothers, Mike Martin (Mary), Steve Martin, and William Martin; nieces and nephews Leslie Martin, Taylor Martin, Courtney Womack, and Cara Brashears;  numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband William “Billy” Schmidt and parents, Ulysses and Carol Martin.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 15,2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee. Visitation will be held from 12-2 with funeral service to follow Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee. The Burial will follow at Magee Cemetery. Bro. Michael Giles will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 849-5031.
