Saturday, May 7th, rising new author Charlie Spillers, a 1963 Magee High School graduate, was on hand for a book signing and reunion! The MHS Class of ’63 sponsored the event and invited the public. Seeing so many members of the ’63 class and locals was fun!!! I’m just saying, we had fun! The event was held at the Magee Civic Center.
Charlie told how he always thought of Magee as “My Home Town.” Charlie’s father was an oil field worker and the family moved often following the rig to whatever city provided a job. Charlie’s family was in Magee about 6 years…Charlie 3 of those years…his brothers and sisters attend MHS. Upon graduation, Charlie joined the Marines…and let me say…just read or listen to my interview with Charlie and you’ll know all the answers!
Class member Jane Mangum Hederman welcomed Charlie. She told how his favorite song was “Bird Dog” and Charlie would ride around town with the windows down in his car blaring that song! Nancy Bowling West, class president, along with many of the class members did an excellent job in “pulling things together.” Charlie’s wife Evelyn was in attendance.
I’ve got pictures and I’ve got video…anyone is welcome to comment on the article with names of people in the pictures…I am just not the best with names anymore!
Once a Trojan…always a Trojan…this class bled red and gray! Much appreciation to Charlie for joining in the festivities.
Main Street Bookstore in Hattiesburg provided the books for Sale.
“Confessions of an Undercover Agent” reached number one on the Mississippi Best Selling Book list today (Sunday). The book is #1 on Amazon in law enforcement books.
