Bobbie Jean Sullivan Pope, 86, of Newport News, VA, died Friday, February 20, 2015.  She was born to Harvey and Myra Sullivan, of Mize, MS, on June 10, 1928, one of 9 children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles M. Pope.  She is also preceded in death by 4 sisters and 2 brothers, Louise Lott, of Natchez, MS;  Pauline Sullivan, Bradys Grubbs, and Marie Moore, Chester J Sullivan, Orlando Jack Sullivan, all of Magee, MS.   Those who knew her well appreciated that her life centered around her family. She was a simple woman, small in stature, big in personality. She is survived by 2 sisters, Eva Casey of Jackson, MS  and Gladys Miller of Magee, MS; 4 children, Charlene Abel (Steve), Larry Pope (Mary), Stuart Pope (Cathi), Tina Newton (Chuck); 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  A celebration of her life will be held Monday, February 23, 11:00 a.m. at Christopher Newport University’s Pope Chapel officiated by The Reverend Jeff Ferguson, followed by a reception on site. A private graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Newport News CASA; 230 25th Street Newport News, VA 23607, (757) 926-3642. Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
