The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ (MDWFP) Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery’s Visitor Education Center (VEC) will host spring break programs March 12 – 15 at 2:00 p.m. each day. Youth will learn about different predators for fish and how to identify these predators from specific clues. Each program will allow youth to see and touch real and replica specimens relating to each animal.

The programs are free with the price of admission. Admission is $2.50 for adults ages 18-59, and $2.00 for youth ages 3-17 and adults over the age of 60. For additional information, or to pre-register a youth for the event, call the VEC at (662) 563-8068.

Events include:

March 12: Mysterious Mammals – Many mammals prey on fish or are scavengers for “left-over” fish. Participants will follow clues to identify some unique mammals.

March 13: Fishing for Clues – Youth will learn to identify some carnivorous fish. VEC Staff will feed the “carnivores of the aquarium” after the program.

March 14: Reptilian Thieves – Youth will learn more about particular species of snakes, turtles, and other reptiles that will consume fish!

March 15: Birds of Prey – The diet of many bird species consists mainly of fish. Youth will discover seven birds that are predators for fish.

The VEC is part of the MDWFP’s Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery and is located at Exit 233 east off I-55.
