The Simpson County Board of Supervisors met for their scheduled meeting, Monday, June 12, 2023.  The first order of business was to opens bids for the SAP-64(65) Dry Creek Road project. Proof of publication was approved.

Only one bid was received from Alan Coleman Construction out of Hazlehurst, MS.

The projected bid was $505,353.80. The bid came in at $757,538.50. The price was 49.9% above suggest bid price. The board rejected the bid and will rebid in the coming months.

Emergency Manager John Killpatrick reported a total of 1298  911 calls  received last month. The calls are up from last year. Last year had  a total of 1100 calls. The county received a total of $3950 in permit fees for the month. 4 structure fires in the county were reported for the month. Killpatrick reported that the grounding of the equipment at the 911 office is taking place and should be completed by the end of the week.

Renovations at the Courthouse are on schedule and crews are working everyday.

The board acknowledge the retirement of Frederick Lee Williams with the Sheriff’s Department and Kathy Lyn Kennedy with the Tax Collectors Office. Both were recognized during the board meeting and presented with resolutions.

Williams has been employed with the county since April 1993. He is a member of the military and has served in previous deployments. Williams advanced with the Sheriff’s department to Captain.

Kennedy has worked for the county 33 years and 11 months in the Tax Collectors Office.

Sheriff Mullins requested approval for Jeff Mann full time non certified sheriff patrol deputy to attend Harrison County Law Enforcement Academy August 27, 2023. The cost of the academy is $4000.00 tuition and cost of cadet uniform.

  • Independence Day – Tuesday, July 4, 2023
  • Labor Day – Monday, September 4, 2023

The meeting entered into executive session to discuss Mississippi Hub.
