The March 15, 2024 Simpson County Board of Supervisors meeting was called to order by Board President Mitchell Chatman followed by prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.  All board members were present.

Chancery Clerk Tim Gray requested the MS Chancery Clerks Association Annual dues for 2023-2024 at a cost of $1,000 be approved for payment.  The Board approved.

Ben Warren, Road manager, discussed the aging fleet of county work trucks.  Landon Dunham of Hertz, which is  the largest supplier of work trucks in the county, presented the Board with a proposal for leasing the needed trucks.  Under the lease, no milage restraints as well as repairs are covered.  “The turn around time for truck replacement is usually the same day or 48 hours,” stated Mr. Dunham.   Supervisor Danny Craft said “looking good here, but we need a short contract to be sure everything is ok.”  The lease would be paid monthly according to Supervisor Donny Welch.  The board approved the lease.

Warren discussed the need for a newer packer.  “Gulf South Equipment submitted a bid for $11,750.”  Supervisor Wayne Womack stated the importance of the board being pro-active.  Board President Mitchell Chatman questioned the county having the money to afford the packer.  Ben explained, we have two packers working at this time, but they are on their last leg and could quit  anytime…we need a packer we can depend on with paving time in the future.  The board approved the purchase.

The Board hopes to receive additional funding from the state…”we are requesting not applying” stated Womack.
