Board of Supervisors Approved Budget and Tax Levy

Tax Levy and 2019 budget hearing was held Friday, September 14, 2018 as the first order of business during the Board of Supervisors Meeting. No citizens were present to comment against or for the budget. With no opposition, the budget and tax levy was approved by the board. A chart of how the budget is spent is attached.

Road Manager, Ben Warren, addressed the board with a concern from the public about a bulldozer being driven down the road, and concerns about cattle crossing road. The board agreed to send a letter to the operator and owner of the land which is in question warning of the use of a dozer on a public road. In the letter, the board asked the landowner to put some type of cones in the road when cattle are crossing to warn on coming traffic at the time of the cattle crossing. Mr. Warren asked for approval on a MDOT driveway application for Josh Cook.

Tommy Joe Harvey, Chancery Clerk, asked the board to approve Simpson County School Board Leases and to verify the Simpson County School Board candidates. Candidates are: District 2 – Sandrena Durr, Robert Gene Everett, and Patrice F Boykin, District 3 -Danny Cowart, Randall Morrow, and Deborah Skiffer Talton, and District 4 – Stan Bulger, Chris May, and Rev. John McDonald. Board of Supervisors approved all Candidates for school board.

A 25 Mile per hour speed limit was approved for Smith Crossing Road.

Dave Van, Region 8 Mental Health, met before the board to present their annual report. Mr. Van stated Region 8 was not asking for any additional monies and thankful for support the Board of Supervisors gives Region 8.

Mrs. Peggy Kelly was reappointed as the Simpson County Trustee for the Central Mississippi Regional Library System for a second term. The current term ends September 30, 2018.

With no further business, the meeting was recessed until September 28, 2018 at 9:00 am for the end of the fiscal year meeting.
