Bid opening was the first order of business for the Simpson County Board of Supervisor Meeting Monday, June 17, 2019.
The following bids were opened and proof of publication was provided for Project ERBB-64(01) Star Braxton Road Simpson County(bridge). The lowest bid was accepted and awarded to Oddee Smith Construction in Brookhaven, MS in the amount of $236,687.66. Others bids received were Fordice Construction Company in the amount of $276,046.50, Ellis Dozer Service, LLC in the amount of $344,923.00, Key LLC from Madison, MS in the amount of $331,091.50 and Hemphill Construction Florence, MS in the amount of $312,105.00.
Bids were opened on the LSBP-64(22) N Jake Barnes Road Simpson County (bridge). The lowest bid was accepted and awarded to T L Wallace Construction, Inc. from Columbia, MS in the Amount of $651,234.35. Other bids received were Magco, Inc. from Laurel, MS in the amount of $664,203.65, Tanner Construction Co., Inc. from Ellisville, MS in the amount of $671,937.45, Joe McGee Construction Co, Inc. from Lake, MS in the amount of $710,435.70, Key, LLC. From Madison, MS in the amount of $ 793,502.35 and Ellis Dozer from Seminary, MS in the amount of $ 945,932.46.
A resolution was given honoring four county employees upon their retirement. Those honored were Sammy N Welch, former District 4 Supervisor and Road Employee, Glen D Jennings, Emergency Manager, Mary N Weathersby, Jail Supervisor, and J M Hooker, Assistant Road Manager.
The board approved the constructions plans, bid notice, and engineering invoice for $14,400 for design services for the ERBR-64(02) Rockport – New Hebron Road bridge project.
The board approved an exemption for Solid Waste fees for Tony Wallace and Chris Stamps Stompwal Trailer Park located at 151 Tommy Stubbs Road, Mount Olive, MS due to commercial garbage pickup contract for the trailer park.
Joyce Hicks, Justice Court Clerk was given approval to attend the Mississippi Justice Court Annual Conference in Natchez, MS September 4-6, 2019.
Business pertaining to the Sheriff department was approved. The board approved payment for ROCIC annual dues for the department of $300.00. Approval was granted for Amanda Weathersby, Crystal Scarborough, Austin Moore, and Felisha Hamilton to attend a 16 hour MS Telecommunications re-certification course for dispatchers on June 22-23 at the Mendenhall E911 building. The cost of the course is $225.000 per person. Meghan Rhodes was moved to full time jail certified Corporal. Dylon Dakota Brown was approved as a new hire part-time with full time certification.Leon Wedgeworth was granted permission o attend NIBRS, June 27-28 in Long Beach, MS. The tuition for the course is free.
Board President Mickey Berry was honored with a plaque for his service as a board member by the Mississippi Association of Supervisors.
The county will observed Thursday, July 4th and Friday, July 5th as Holidays and offices will be closed.
Next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2019.
