Simpson County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, February 15, 2022 for their regular scheduled meeting. First order of business was the opening of bids and proof of publication for linear grading, base repair leveling and reseal known as project #2022 Simpson County. Low Bid of $10,559,300.15 was awarded to R J M MCQueen Contracting Inc. W E Blain submitted bid for $10,699,027.80 and T L Wallace Construction submitted bid for $11,034,442.60.

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors honored James W Anderson for his public service with the Simpson County Solid Waste.  Mr. Anderson is retiring. Anderson began work for the county on March 3, 2014 and has serviced as the Solid Waste Manager from November 1, 2014 through February 28, 2022.

Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP Projects as of January 31.2022.

  • SAP-64(19)S– Surface Maintenance on Mt. Zion to Shivers Road and St. Johns Road is at 90% completed with 80% Elapse time. Processing final estimate.
  • LSBP-64(23)– Bridge replacement on Sofa Road is 85% Completed with 80% Elapse time. Contractor as completed box bridge. Finishing approaches. Weather hampering construction.
  • SAP-64(64)– Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton Contracts are ready for execution by Board President.
  • LSBP-64(24)– Working on P.S. & E. Assembly. Have mailed out utility agreement. Can start right of way acquisition.
  • SAP-64(65)– (Bridge Replacement) Dry Creek Road – Office review plans were mailed to State Aid on September 27, 2021. Awaiting completion of environmental review.

Sheriff Paul Mullins submitted the following items which were approval.

  • Approval of jail commissary service agreements with CTC Commissary, LLC.
  • Approval to move Brandi Hayman jail medical part time LPN to part-time RN.
  • Approval to move Khalil Johnson jail no-certified full-time to certified full time Corporal.

The following new hires were approved:

  • Theja Abernathy as full-time employee for Circuit Clerks Office effective February 16, 2022.
  • Lacy Irvin as full-time employee for Justice Court Office effective February 16, 2022.
  • Christopher Williams for the Solid Waste Department effective February 28, 2022.

The board approved the burial of a dead horse for Felicia Haslob located at 317 Sawmill Road, Braxton, MS.

  • Tuesday, March 16, 2022
  • Monday, April 4, 2022
  • Monday, April 18, 2022

Solid Waste adjusted routes for the President’s holiday week of February 21, 2022 will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There will be no collection on Monday.

Holidays: 

  • President’s Day Holiday – Monday, February 21, 2022.
  • Good Friday – Friday, April 15, 2022
