The 2018 Mississippi Association of Supervisors (MAS) County Employee Scholarship Program awarded Amirah Ajgi Lockhart  a $500.00 Scholarship. Amirah grandmother, Trudy Lockhart, was present for the picture.  Lockhart is a student at the University of Mississippi.

Ambulance bids were opened at the May 7th meeting.  During the May 15th meeting, a motion from Supervisor Danny Craft to accept the bid by AMR/AMGH died due to no second.  Supervisor Mickey Berry made a motion to table the decision on the Ambulance Service until next board meeting due to all board members not  present.  Randy Moore second the motion and Brain Kennedy approved. A decision, hopefully, will be decided at tje next scheduled meeting, June 4, 2018. AMR/AMGH submitted a proposed bid of $60,000. The bid includes 3 ambulances and 1 reserve for the county with helicopter service starting 10/1/2018. Second bid was from ASAP for $75,000 which allowed 4 ambulances and helicopter service.  The last bid was from Pafford for $400,000 which offered 3 ambulance an one helicopter service. The board voted to extend service with AMR for one month at no cost to the county while a decision for full time service of an ambulance service is decided.

In Sheriff ‘s business, permission to hire part time deputies Richard Dean and Drury Dear was granted.  Permission was granted for the Sheriff to attend the MS Sheriffs’ Association Summer conference in Biloxi at the IP Casino at a room rate of $89.99 per night for June 4-8, 2018. the Sheriff’s department reminded everyone that  a Memorial for Fallen Officers will be held at the Simpson County Justice Courtroom on May 18, 2018 at 7pm. The public is invited to attend.

A bid was approved for the reverse auction for the used pumper fire truck for the Braxton Volunteer Fire department for $105,000.00 from Deep South Fire Trucks, Inc.

The board approved the continued extension of the Emergency Order  for Bridge Repair.

Ratifying the grant request to MDEQ for $13,365.00 for the Unauthorized Dumpsite Cleanup Program was approved.

The board approved school leases.

With no further business, the meeting was recessed  into executive session.
