Birtie Mae James Powell
(January 6, 1928 – December 24, 2022)

Birtie Mae James Powell, 94 of Magee, Mississippi passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at her son`s home in Magee, Mississippi. She was born Friday, January 6, 1928, in Simpson County, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home at 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, Mississippi. The burial will follow in Kennedy Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi. Bro. Reggie Chisholm, Bro. Mark Ramsey, and Bro. Craig Bailey will officiate. Special music will be provided by Belinda Gray and Randa Poirier.  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

Ms. Birtie was a member of Jesus Name Church of Raleigh, Mississippi.  She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.  She enjoyed singing, working in her garden and flowers, but most of all spending time with her family.  She will be greatly missed by all of her loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Powell; father, Albert James; mother, Ella Wells James; sisters, Alberteen James Churchman, Esther James Matthews and Helen James Hoggett; and daughters-in-law, Dale Powell and Joyce Powell.

Survivors include her four sons, Joseph Calvin  Powell of Magee, MS, Danny Ray Powell (Nancy) of Magee, MS, Albert Randall Powell (Karen) of Magee, MS and George Anthony Powell (Connie) of Mendenhall, MS; six grandchildren, John Powell (Karen) of Mendenhall, MS, Melissa Powell Ramsey (Mark) of Magee, MS, Danny Mitchell Powell (Angel) of Jayess, MS, Twyla Powell Chisholm (Reggie) of Raleigh, MS, Bryan Powell (Brandi) of Magee, MS and Jeramy Powell (Kati) of Magee, MS; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kaci Powell, Colby Ramsey, Jake Ramsey, Cheyenne Powell DeLozier (Trent), James Powell, Philip Chisholm (Courtney), Randa Chisholm Poirier (Jack), McKenzi Powell Cockrell (Hunter), Drake Powell (Maicy Orzechowski), Carter Powell, Jax Powell, Mae Powell, Ripley Powell; three great-great-grandchildren, Levi Chisholm, Wiatt Chisholm, Fisher Cockrell and Baby Boy Cockrell on the way; one brother, Ezell James (Linda); one sister, Lois James Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be John Powell, Mitchell Powell, Bryan Powell, Jeramy Powell, Philip Chisholm, and Colby Ramsey.
