On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, Billy Ray Greer of Mendenhall, MS passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 86; surrounded by many family members and friends.
Mr. Greer is preceded in death by his Wife of 53 years, Nell Grubbs Greer; and survived by two siblings, Mr. Troy C. Greer (Mildred) of D’Lo and Joyce Roberts (Paul) of Magee. He leaves behind four children; Billy W. Greer (Jenise); Kathy G. Ellis; Kimbeley Johnson; and Karon McKinney. Billy will be missed in life by his six grandchildren; Sharon Lunn; Sandy Johnson; Kayte Abeles; Jeremy Johnson; Matthew Greer; and Nakita Johnson. Mr. Greer’s legacy also includes fifteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his is beloved sidekick, Scooter.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 5:30 PM until 8:30 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
A second Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM, followed immediately by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. The Burial will follow in Mendenhall City Cemetery. Bro. Jay Westbrooks will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. (601) 847-4401
Billy was a proud United States Army Veteran. He was also a Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd Degree of the Scottish Rite. In addition Mr. Greer was an admitted and constituted Noble of the Mystic Shrine (El Karubah Temple).
Throughout his life, Billy was a dedicated member of the Asbestos Workers Union Local 114. His professional life led him to many industrial facilities throughout the United States, which is underscored by the many friends and acquaintances who remain constant.
