Billy James McPhail, 87, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was born Friday, December 16, 1932, D’Lo, Mississippi.
Due to Covid-19, a private family funeral service will be held at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall. The burial will follow in D’Lo Cemetery. Father Tony Chakkalakkal will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. (601) 847-4401
Mr. McPhail was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Magee, Mississippi. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother. He served our country in the United States Navy. He received a Master’s degree from Mississippi State. He retired from the State of Mississippi as a Vocational Rehab Counselor, where he helped many people in Simpson County. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hulon Marcus McPhail and Hassie Ray Barr McPhail; one son, Chris McPhail; and four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-three years, Charlotte Jane Pickenpaugh McPhail of Mendenhall; one son, Jim McPhail and wife, Deana of Florida; three grandchildren, Zack, Emily, and Alice McPhail of Mississippi; three great-grandchildren, Greyer, Sawyer, and Ryder; a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tim Boggan, Jeff Broome, Chuck McLain, John Henry Berry, Zack McPhail, and Troy McIntire.
