Daniel C. Jones, District Attorney, announces the jury trial conviction of Billy Bergeron for gratification of lust of a minor child.
Bay Springs- District Attorney Daniel C. Jones announced that on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, a Jasper County trial jury found Defendant Billy Bergeron, 51, of Laurel, guilty of gratification of lust after deliberating forty (40) minutes.
Defendant Billy Bergeron touched the minor child with his hands and a sexual toy on or about March 7, 2013 in Stringer, Mississippi.
District Attorney Jones stated that “ADA Stephanie Breland-Wood and ADA Chris Hennis did an excellent job in trying the case.”
Defendant Billy Bergeron was convicted of gratification of lust and therefore will be sentenced by Judge Eddie H. Bowen on the 27th day of March, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Jasper County Court House in Bay Springs, Mississippi.
District Attorney Jones stated that “[his] office vigorously prosecutes individuals who harm children and holds these evil predators responsible for their perverted sexual activities against children.” Jones further declared that “[he] would make sure these criminals who abuse children will be held accountable for their crimes and punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
District Attorney Jones went on to say that his office “prosecutes criminals without passion, prejudice, improper influence, political standing, financial standing, or regards to race” and it is his duty to “ensure that justice will be served with each and every case [his] office handles.”
Daniel C. Jones represents the 13th Circuit Court District which includes Covington, Jasper, Simpson, and Smith counties.
