Newly appointed District Attorney Chris Hennis met before the board to introduce himself  and to let the board know he looks forward to working with the county.

Bids and Proof ob Publication was held at 9:00 a.m. for Project #LSBP-64)23) Simpson County, Ms. The bid is for bridge replacement on Sofa Road. Two bids were received from Alan Coleman Construction in Hazlehurst and Colom Construction Co., Ic. from Ripley, Ms.

Colom presented a bid in the amount of $361,574.95 and the cheapest and best bid came from Alan Coleman Construction in the amount of $326,748.25. The board agreed to accept the best bid for the job with Alan Coleman Construction.

County Engineer Buddy Wolverton updated the board on the status of State Aid and LSBP Projects.

Surface Maintenance on Cato Road is at 27.41% completed. The Contractor has completed the base repairs and leveling. The project will be resealed this year.

Surface Maintenance on Mt. Zion to Shivers Road and St. Johns Road is at 36.72% completed. The contractor has completed base repairs and leveling. The project will be resealed this spring.

Bridge replacement on Sofa Road was opened for advertising. Bids were opened Monday, March 15, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.

Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton Road is at the stage of working on assembly of P.S. & E to be mailed. Utility agreements have been mailed. The acquiring right of way can begin.

Sheriff Paul Mullins received approval to hire Lauren Welch as a new hire dispatch full time certified and Tiffany Rutland as a new hire dispatch part-time certified. The board approved  Sheriff Mullins to attend 2021 Mississippi Sheriff’s Association June 14-18 in Biloxi covering hotel and travel fees.

Emergency Manager John Kilpatrick updated the board on the emergency matters within the last month. A total of 1480 E-911 calls were received. Of these calls, 17 were fire calls. ASAP received 317 calls with a response time of 17 minutes. An EOC shelter in place meting was held. The board approved for Killpatrick to attend a pilot training for the drone and become certified to operate a drone.

Johnnie Floyd met before the board concerning his street sign that reads road.  The  county records state the road is a drive. The board confirmed the road was a drive. The board approved in a 4-1 vote with Chapman opposing to change in the minutes the address from a road to drive.

A complete list of school bus turnarounds at the request of the Supervisors was provided from the Simpson County School District.

The bids for scrap metal were approved from L & D Trucking and Scrap as the best bid.

The following travel was approved by the board:

  • Travel to Jackson and registration only for Supervisors and staff for the MAS one-day meeting on March 23, 20201 at the Hilton.
  • Supervisors and staff to attend the MAS annual educational conference in Biloxi, MS June 14-17, 2021.
  • Mitchell Chatman to attend the MAS Minority Caucus meeting March 16, 2021 in Vicksburg, Ms.
  • The ECAM conference for the Election Commissioners and Circuit Clerk will be held March 30 – April2, 2021 in Biloxi, MS.

  • Monday, April 5, 20021 – Regular Meeting
  • Wednesday, April 14, 2021 Recessed Meeting
  • Monday, May 3, 2021 – Regular Meeting
  • Monday, May 17, 2021 – Recessed Meeting

Holidays: 

  • Good Friday Holiday – Friday, April 2, 2021.
  • Memorial Day Holiday – Monday, May 31, 2021.

With no further business, the meeting was recessed.
