Bid opening for ERBR-64(03) Saratoga Sharon Bridge Replacement job were taken Monday, February 6, 2023. The engineer estimate was $813,768.00. Several bids were obtained an the bid was awarded to the low bidder Ellis Dozer Services of Seminary at a cost of $657,701.00.

Bid opening for Project ERB-64(04) Harrisville-Braxton Road project was received. The engineer estimate was $567,733.00. Several bids were received and the the bid was awarded to Fordice Construction Company of Vicksburg being the lowest and best bid at $332,139.50.

Proof of publication was provided for both bid openings.

Both bids came in under engineer estimate.

Road Manger Ben Warren provided the road mangers report for December which was approved.

Buddy Wolverton, County Engineer, reported the status of State-Aid & LSSBP as of January 31, 2023.

  • SAP-64(64)– Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton. 19.34% completions with 40% Elapsed time. Contractor is completing clearing and grubbing operation.Planning to install cross drains once culverts are available.
  • LSBP-64(24)– Bridge Replacement Shorter Road – 61.55% Complete. 57.14% Elapsed time, Contractor has poured box bridge. Finishing wingwalls.
  • SAP-64(65)– (Bridge Replacement) Dry Creek Road – P.S. & E., Assembly mailed to State Aid.  Awaiting right of way acquisition, to be able to advertise for bids.
  • LSBP-64(25) – Bridge Replacement Peacock Road – Office Review Plans were mailed to State Aid on July 25, 2022. Starting environmental review process is continuing.
  • 2022 Simpson County Resurfacing Project – Roads 1A-5O – 57.08% Completed and 85.38% Elapsed time. Contractor has completed reseal operation on 24 or 94 roads.
  • ERBR-63(03) – (Bridge Replacement) Saratoga – Sharon Road – Advertising! Open bids Monday, February 6th at 9:00 a.m.
  • ERBR-64(04) – Bridge Rehabilitation) Harrisville – Braxton Road – Advertising! open bids Monday, February 6th @ 9:00 a.m.
  • SAP-64(17) M – (Guardrails) Old River Road P.S.& E. Assembly mailed to State Aid January 3, 2023.

Jamie Brewer, Tax Assessor/Collector presented the surrender tag list for January and changes to the real and personal property to be approved and made part of the minutes. Brewer advised Carol Berry approached her concerning the new school he is forming for autistic children to be located in the old movie theater building in Magee. Presently there are 21 students. Berry wanted to know if there was any type of tax exemption or help for this type business. The board will research further and get back with them if anything is available.

Sheriff Paul Mullins presented the following report for approval.

  • Move Justin Brown, Mark Brown, and Christopher Cook to full-time certified jail
  • Pay Summit invoice for January at an amount of $25,511.08
  • Hire Angela Goza as a new hire dispatch full time non-certified
  • Angie Walker, Crystal Scarborough, Annette Turner to attend Stress Management 8 hour class February 17, 2023 at Simpson county E911 building in Mendenhall at a cost of $150 each

The board approved the appointment of Joseph Sims as Special Prosecutor in Justice Court due to the recusal of Wesley Broadhead in the case of State of MS vs. Tremain Lott.

The board discussed amending the contract for the Courthouse to add window blinds. The board agreed to get bids on the price of the project and see what action is needed.
