August 23, 1934 – April 4, 2022

Bettye Jean Long Floyd, of Magee, passed away from her earthy home to her heavenly home on Monday, April 04, 2022, at The Magnolia at Oxford Commons in Oxford, Mississippi. She was born on Thursday, August 23, 1934.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Wilson Floyd, Jr.; parents, Herbert Webster Long and Annie Belle Carmichael Long; brothers, William Jefferson “Billie” Long and Stevie Long; sister, Martha Ann “Prissy” Gates; father-in-law, Arthur Wilson Floyd, Sr. and mother-in-law, Bessie Lee Floyd; sister-in-law, Dorris Herrington; brothers-in-law; William Eugene Ward and Willard Earl Blair; and very dear friend, Norman F. Duncan.

She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Floyd of Pearl, MS and Cynthia Floyd Moore (Wayne) and grandson, Carter Moore all of Grenada, MS; sisters, Mollye Jo Ward of Charlotte, NC, Beverly Sue Blair of Pearl, MS and Dianne Carlin (Doug) of Quitman, MS; sisters-in-law Martha Miller (Ed) of Huntsville, AL and Joan Long of Franklin, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bettye will be remembered as a long-time educator not only in Simpson County, but through various locations across the US and in the Philippines as A.W. was stationed with the Air Force. She also went on to work with the State of Mississippi Department of Education and the Magee campus of Co-Lin Community College.

Visitation and service was held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee, with burial following at Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Michael Lee of Brandon officiated the service. Pallbearers were Wayne Moore, Carter Moore, Cliff Paschal, Steven Reed, Ricky Thompson, and Derral Ward. Honorary pallbearer was John Tannehill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either:
