Seven lovely ladies competed in the Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program (formerly known as America’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program) on Saturday, January 14.

The DYW continues to uphold the Motto for young ladies to Be Your Best Self. The competition consisted of being judged on scholastic achievement, interview, talent, self-expression, and fitness.

Savannah Berry won in Self-Expression, Scholastics, and claimed the title Smith County’s Distinguished Young Woman.

For talent, Savannah preformed “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical Les Misérables and did an outstanding job. Savannah is the daughter of John Dale and Heather Berry of Mize. She is the granddaughter of Mark and Kathy Whittington of Mize and the late Janie McAlpin of Magee. She attends Puckett High School where her mother is a teacher. She is a member of Church Alive where she actively is part of the Worship team. Some of her academic achievements include being an honor roll student, receiving the Chemistry Award, ACT Honors, PHS Southern Pine Youth Leadership Nominee, Principal’s Award, and the Family Dynamics Award. She is a member of the Wolf Pack Tennis team where she serves as Captain. She is also the FCA President, a FCCLA Officer, a SADD Representative, and a member of the National Honor Society, BETA Club, PHS Choir, and Bionic Club. Savannah is actively involved in community outreach programs throughout her community, church, and school.

Savannah will advance to represent Smith County in the upcoming State Scholarship Program this summer in July. We are excited to see where the journey leads as she continues to prepare in competing for additional scholarships. She looks forward to working with the local team in preparing  to Be Her Best Self.
