Be Different!
As I read my daily devotion from Rick Warren this morning, I was struck by this simple yet powerful verse: “But Noah sound favor in the eyes of the Lord.” I have read this verse many times as a child and as an adult. We are all familiar with the ark and the flood, and the sinfulness of the people around Noah. The world was so sinful that God was brokenhearted and sorry that He had created man!
“But Noah” – Noah was different. God liked what he saw in Noah. “But Noah” – The power of one person is beautifully illustrated in this verse. When I took the freshman Bible course many years ago at Mississippi College, our professor emphasized turning points as we studied the scriptures. “But Noah” – THIS was a turning point! God saw something different in Noah, something that He liked, something that could turn the world away from wickedness, selfishness, and sinfulness. Someone who was not like everyone else, someone who was different!
Pastor Warren talks about the distractions of popularity, pleasure, profits, and possessions! Ouch! I am guilty!! I need to change my focus to being different, not like everyone else. We have a world full of people of all ages spending their lives trying to “fit in”. Maybe we need to concentrate on being different, so God can use us like he used Noah.
Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found favor with the Lord.”
Genesis 6:9b “….Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God”
