Lauren Kate Carter will share the Gospel with the people of Canada on her summer mission trip.

The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws soccer player seeks to reach student-athletes and family members for two months starting in June.

“The Lord has given me a huge heart for sports,” Carter said. She will run summer sports camps, organize block parties and plan other events in Canada to share the message of Jesus.

Lauren Kate is booked for a Baptist Student Union summer missions dinner. The February 22 program at MC will raise funds and an outpouring of prayers before 21 BSU members begin their journey. Students, faculty, staff and friends will attend. Tickets cost $25 for the 7 p.m. event at Anderson Hall on the Clinton campus.

Bake sales, fund drives on social media, and a beard auction are helping pay for the summer missions. Carter penned letters to family and friends to seek donations. She’s seeking to raise $2,900 plus airfare.

Building her faith is an important part of her life.

A member of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, Lauren Kate, 20, attends Pinelake church in Clinton. The pre-physical therapy major regularly attends meetings of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Once the MC sophomore arrives in Canada June 7, Carter will work with IMB missionaries and Upward Sports Toronto to reach student athletes. “My prayer is that the people of Canada give their hearts and lives to the Lord.” She will share the Gospel with people from the world’s most persecuted nations who resettled to Canada.

Mississippi College BSU members are scheduled to take mission trips around the globe. They range from trips to New Mexico for Shonda Wesley and Kaitlyn Horton to travel to Alaska for Megan Hawkins. Lauren Hardesty, Anna Biggs and Miriam Middleton are all bound for Peru. Brynn Latham heads to Australia and RaeAnn Guthrie goes to the Dominican Republic.

AnnaLea Munn, 22, a kinesiology major from Pontotoc, will travel to New York. She will work with an international church plant, and help with local camps for two months.

“My main goal is to bring The Gospel to people that have never heard it,” says Munn, an MC senior. “I’m being faithful because I was called. It’s a blessing to serve different countries and cities. It’s something I never get tired of doing.”

It will be the Mississippian’s first summer in New York City. She’s done previous BSU church mission trips in China and Hawaii. AnnaLea attends West Heights Baptist Church in Pontotoc.

Mississippi Baptists help support costs of many of the summer mission trips, especially for students serving in the USA. The BSU raises support and all student summer missionaries assist collecting donations.
