The Scriptural passage selected for today is found in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” Amen! The early Christians at Corinth faced many difficulties, much as we in our churches do today. The gospel writer wrote to them often, encouraging them to band together in love, to assemble often, and to follow the teachings of Jesus. If one were in need of food, clothing, or shelter, the body of believers should reach out to provide the basics while giving God the praise. As we receive comfort from one another, we are, in turn, to give comfort to those about us so God can be glorified and exalted. As the gospel song puts it, “If I can help somebody along life’s way; then, my living shall not be in vain.” The Word of God for the people of God; thanks be to God!
Today, let’s show God’s love by offering comfort to those in need.
