Located in downtown Magee is a well kept secret:  B.J.’s Smoke Shed.  Let me straighten this out right now…this is not a business or local eatery…it is the out door kitchen of the Magee Fire Department.  I had someone contact me soon after the picture of the Smoke Shed was posted Saturday wanting to know “where is this place?”

Magee Fireman Tony Puckett stacks the turkey breast in the smoker.

BJ, one of our “mature” firemen, heads up the Smoke Shed as the “big boss.”  BJ’s love for the fire department is legendary.  He tried to “retire’ from MFD this year…the answer was no from the other firemen; therefore, BJ can pretty much do what he wants  which means support of the department.

The turkey breast were in the smoker Saturday.  One could smell the mouth watering aroma all over downtown.   The firemen sell the turkey breasts as a fundraiser.  The guys have constant projects benefiting the department which in turns benefits the city! Fundraisers are also held each year supporting the F. J. Dickey Fire Department Scholarship.

Rolled and ready! The turkey breast are seasoned with the fire departments on secret seasoning!

The department sold 100 turkeys @ $35 each for the fundraiser.  (Of course, there are expenses).

I guess age has its perks!  BJ now has a “shed” named for him!

Shane and Hunter Steele and Tony Puckett assist in the smoking!

P. S. These are absolutely the best turkey breast ever!  Be sure you watch the Magee Fire Department Facebook page for updates for the next sell .

Thank you for your dedication.
