Aubrey Lamar Mitchell, Jr, passed away on December 7, 2022.
Aubrey was born October 12, 1949, in Greenwood, Mississippi. He grew up in Greenwood where he attended Greenwood High School, playing both football and baseball. After leaving Greenwood, Aubrey served four years in the Air Force then moved to Hattiesburg and later graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Education.
Aubrey did his student teaching at Magee Elementary School. After graduating from Southern, he decided that Magee was a good place to raise a family and made Magee his home. Along with teaching, he was over the sports program for Magee and was able to be involved in the sports that he loved.
Aubrey loved spending time with family, teaching, and especially loved fishing and duck hunting. He spent as much time as possible on the water whether it be fishing or duck hunting in the Delta where he retired.
He is survived by his two sons, Aubrey Lamar Mitchell, III (Jill), and Michael Stephen Mitchell (Katie) and his daughter, Jenny Elizabeth Mitchell-Strong (Audie), four grandchildren, Anders Mitchell, Miles Mitchell, Georgia Mitchell and Walt Mitchell, and a special friend, Diana Hosey.
Aubrey is preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey Lamar and Mary “Child” Mitchell, and his sisters, Carolyn and Cathy.
Aubrey will be missed very much by his family and friends.
A service will be held for Aubrey on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee at 2:00 pm with visitation from 1:00 pm until 2:00.
Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
